Teresa Wells
Bronze Sculpture

Meet the artist
Teresa Wells creates emotive figurative sculptures in bronze, that celebrate man’s physical and emotional survival over adversity. Inspired by the question “How do Humans Behave”, she draws inspiration from the contours of athletes and ballet dancers to emphasise a physical strength, placing them in precarious poses to stress fragility. When combined with geometric architectural supports, in steel and stone, she shows a contemporary approach to bronze, lifting it off the the plinth and making it appear less monumental and traditional.
My Story
My practice explores the relationship between strength and vulnerability, balance and instability, using the human form to convey emotional and psychological narratives. After gaining a First Class Honours degree in Fine Art from Nottingham Trent University and completing postgraduate study at Loughborough University under John Atkin FRBS and Dan Archer FRBS, I developed a sculptural language informed by both classical traditions and contemporary ideas.
Originally trained as an illustrator, I bring a strong sense of movement and line to my work. Working predominantly in bronze, I create figurative sculptures poised on geometric steel supports, capturing moments of tension, resilience, and transformation.
My work has been exhibited internationally, recognised with awards including Best Sculpture (Narcissus) ‘Mind Body Spirit’ International Art Competition.net 2019, short listed for The Blunden Prize 2023, winner at Creekside Open 2015, APT Gallery, London. Selected and Nominated by Richard Deacon CBE.
and silver gilt at RHS Chelsea Flower Show and is held in public and private collections, including the permanent collection of The Robert T. Webb Sculpture Park, USA.
